As a Spanish and International Health Studies student, Spanish courses were a key part of my curriculum. Listed below are all of the Spanish classes I completed during my college career.
Fall 2019
SPAN 2010: INTERMEDIATE SPANISH (I)
This is an intermediate Spanish course to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Grammatical structures and basic vocabulary are reviewed systematically. Includes literary and cultural perspectives.
Spring 2020
SPAN 2020: INTERMEDIATE SPANISH (II)
This Spanish course is a continuation of the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills learned in SPAN 2010. More advanced grammatical structures and vocabulary are reviewed systematically. Also included literary and cultural perspectives.
Fall 2020
SPAN 3020: INTERMEDIATE SPANISHÂ GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION
This course involves an intensive review of Spanish structure, verbs, idioms, and vocabulary with an introduction to syntax and stylistics through controlled and free composition.
Spring 2021
SPAN 3150: SPANISH FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
This course centers around medical concepts and terminology in Spanish. It is designed for students who plan to work in professions related to public health care.
Fall 2021
SPAN 4190: HEALTH AND THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY
This course is taught in Spanish and studies cultural aspects of health and health services in Hispanic populations.
Spring 2022
SPAN 3040, SPAN 3140 & SPAN 4070
SPAN 3040: Introduction to Hispanic Literary Forms
This course introduces the basic structures and elements of fiction, poetry, drama, and essay, including literary and critical theory, with readings in 19th- and 20th-century Spanish and Spanish-American literature.
SPAN 3140: Hispanic Linguistics
This course teaches the theory and practice of linguistics applied to Spanish, in order to deepen knowledge of phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics and linguistic change.
SPAN 4070: Hispanic Film
This course analyzes important films in Hispanic society through an intense study of cinematographic techniques in Spanish. The topics of this course include comparative analysis of film and literature, film as propaganda, film as "blockbuster," and the cinematic depiction of social, cultural, and historical realities of Hispanic nations.
Fall 2022
SPAN 3070: THE HISPANIC WORLD - SPAIN
This course introduces the significant aspects of the culture of Spain from its origins to the present. It emphasizes the artistic, social, historical, political, and contemporary issues of the Iberian Peninsula.
Spring 2023
SPAN 4180: TECHNICAL SPANISH FOR HEALTH MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONALS
This course addresses technical health communication course in Spanish with emphasis on managerial and business aspects of the international health industry.
